SOS emergency alerts for residents
A resident holds one button; the guards on duty and the neighbours who opted in are alerted within seconds with the category and the flat. Every alert and response is logged, including the drills.
An SOS alert sends a resident’s emergency to the guards on duty and designated neighbours in one tap, carrying the flat number, the category — medical, fire or security — and live location. Response is tracked and logged, and a drill mode lets a society test the chain without a real alarm.
Seconds matter; taps beat calls
In an emergency inside a flat, the fastest useful help is almost never the emergency services. It is the guard eighty metres away at the gate and the neighbour on the same floor. The problem is reaching them: the intercom is in the hall you cannot get to, the guard room number is on a sticker somewhere, and a phone call requires explaining who you are and where.
What a person can reliably do while frightened, injured, or holding somebody up, is press one button. Everything the responder needs — which flat, which tower, what kind of emergency, where the phone is right now — the system already knows and can send without being asked.
The value is not the alert. It is the response chain behind it: who is notified, in what order, what happens if nobody acknowledges within ninety seconds, and whether the society has ever tested any of it. A panic button with no tested chain behind it is a false reassurance, which is worse than none.
- A call requires composure. Explaining a location to a guard room is a task; pressing a button is not.
- Proximity beats services. The guard and the neighbour arrive in a minute. That minute is often the one that matters.
- Untested chains fail. Most societies have never once checked whether the guard phone is charged and in the right hands at 3am.

One-tap SOS from the resident app
A press-and-hold button on the resident app home screen, deliberately requiring a hold of a second or two so that a pocket press does not fire it. It works from the lock screen where the phone permits, because unlocking a phone is not a reasonable thing to require of someone in an emergency.
Every resident on the flat account has it, including elderly members and domestic staff registered to the flat, without any separate setup.
Instant alerts to guards and neighbours
The alert reaches the guard devices on duty at that moment, not a fixed list of numbers that went stale two contracts ago, because the roster already knows who is on shift. It also reaches the neighbours who have opted into the neighbour response group for that tower or floor.
Neighbour alerting is opt-in on both sides. A resident chooses whether their emergencies notify neighbours, and a neighbour chooses whether to receive them. A society that switches this on for everyone by default gets it switched off by residents within a month.
Categories for medical, fire and security
The category is chosen in the same gesture as the alert, because it changes the response completely. A medical alert should bring the guard with the first-aid kit and clear the lift; a fire alert should trigger the building’s fire procedure and not send people into a lift at all; a security alert should not announce itself audibly on arrival.
Where a resident cannot choose, the alert fires uncategorised rather than waiting. An unclassified alert that arrives is worth more than a precise one that does not.
Live location sharing
The flat is known from the account, which covers most cases. Live location matters for the ones it does not — a resident in the basement car park, on the jogging track, in a stairwell between floors — where the difference between the registered flat and where the person actually is decides how long the search takes.
Location is shared for the duration of the alert and stops when it closes. It is not continuous tracking, and a system that treated it as such would not survive contact with residents.
Response tracking and logs
Responders acknowledge from their device, so the resident can see that help is coming and the committee can see who responded and how quickly. If nobody acknowledges inside the escalation window, the alert widens automatically to the next tier — the security supervisor, then the designated committee members.
Every alert produces a record: raised at, category, acknowledged by, arrived at, closed by, with notes. That record is what makes the monthly review possible and what a committee needs if an incident is ever examined.
Drill mode for testing
Drill mode runs the full chain — the same devices, the same escalation, the same timings — flagged clearly as a drill to everyone it reaches. It produces the same response report, which is what turns a safety claim into a measured one.
Run it quarterly and at least once at night. Almost every society that runs its first night drill finds something: a guard phone that is charged but silent, a supervisor number that belongs to someone who left, a neighbour group with two people in it. Finding that during a drill is the entire point.

An alert is only as good as its knowledge of who is on duty. Because the guard roster, the attendance record and the alert routing are one system, an SOS at 3am reaches the guards actually on that shift — not a list somebody typed in when the app was installed.
Alerts close into the operational record rather than disappearing. An SOS that turns out to be a stuck lift becomes a work order against that lift; one caused by a corridor light failure becomes a helpdesk ticket. Repeated alerts of the same category in the same tower are visible as a pattern, which is usually how a society discovers a problem it has been treating as a series of unrelated incidents.
